Our ambition

We're determined to make Islington fairer. To create a place where everyone, whatever their background, has the opportunity to reach their potential and enjoy a good quality of life.

We also have an ambitious goal – to be the best council in the country – with every employee clear about the part they play and inspired, focused and supported to give their very best.

We want to build an organisation where employees feel valued, inspired and empowered to help us achieve our goals and provide the best services possible to our residents.

Our values and behaviours

‘Be Islington’ is about setting a clear challenge about what it means to be an Islington employee and sets the standard for every new recruit.

We ask our employees to ‘Be Islington’ – playing their part in working together for a fairer borough and to always be collaborative, be ambitious, be resourceful, and be empowering (‘CARE’).

Are you a person with substantial knowledge and experience of Adult Safeguarding Policy and Practice? Someone who understands and is committed to the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal? Are you passionate about ensuring that adults who have care and support needs receive the best possible service whilst challenging inequalities and promoting fairness for all?

If so, then this role could be for you.

As Independent Chair of the Islington Safeguarding Adults Board you will have significant knowledge and experience of working within services responsible for safeguarding adults.

You will demonstrate extensive experience of chairing and leading strategic partnerships. You will have the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences and to form strategic relationships across partner organisations.

You will communicate well in a range of settings including public meetings/events and be confident to engage with senior managers across a range of organisations. You must be able to offer an independent voice, representing the views of all partners whilst retaining the ability to challenge bringing improvement and effectiveness when required.

You will hold an academic and/or professional qualification in social care, health or policing/criminal justice, have extensive relevant experience and be educated to degree level. You will be self-motivated and accomplished in supporting a range of partners in senior roles.

You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to engage with and motivate stakeholders, partner agencies and communities to promote the individual’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.
