About The Role

This role provides an exciting opportunity to lead three mission critical projects for the council and work across different departments in adult and children services. You will work closely with a range of senior leaders and frontline colleagues to help deliver the projects and help the council realise its ambition to make Islington a more equal place. You will do this by support the delivery of:

  • Somali Community Inclusion Project
  • Progression to Adulthood Transformation Programme
  • Young Black Men and Mental Health Programme

For Progression to Adulthood, you will need to lead teams across children's and adults' social care to determine solutions to complex problems and embed accountability for delivering continuous improvement in transitions for young people. For Young Black Men's Mental Health, you will be responsible for building a network of system champions to build anti-racist practice across the Council, voluntary and community sector, health, education and policing. You will also drive the Barber's Roundchair project which equips barbers to have inclusive conversations about mental health. For Somali Community Inclusion, you will need to think strategically to bring together all the work Islington does with its residents across housing, culture, health and social care, and communities to ensure adequate provision and a tangible offer for Somali people that creates sustainable, structural change for one of our most vulnerable communities.

You will have excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills and be experienced at working in partnership. You will be passionate about building strong, inclusive, connected communities and develop a deep understanding of Islington’s richly diverse population and the challenges some of our resident’s face. Working with our communities and our frontline services you will understand the challenges they face, and the tools they need to overcome these challenges. You will be highly organised and able to galvanise and bring people together, as well as creating systems that hold people to account. You will be able to clearly report on progress to senior leadership. This is a one year role and part of the work you do will be about ensuring that systems are developed so that this work can continue as business as usual when the role ends.

You will report to the Director of Strategic Commissioning in Children’s and Adults, with matrix reporting arrangements to the relevant senior leaders for each of the pieces of work.
