Our apprenticeships combine working in a great job, with training, development, and a competitive salary. You will be given dedicated time in your working week to focus on your studies. You will also have access to a network of colleagues from within the organisation and tutors to support your learning.
The Business Administration apprenticeship consists of a 21-month opportunity to learn and to provide support to Specialist Employment Service.
To apply for this apprenticeship, you must:
• Be aged 16 or above and
• Be an Islington resident or
• Islington care leaver or
• Islington school leaver in the last 12 months or
You will also need to satisfy the following course entry requirements:
• Not already have a qualification at the similar level or above in this apprenticeship subject
• Not have extensive skills or experience in this apprenticeship subject.
• Pass the course screening assessments

The Job - Working as a Business Administration Apprentice for the Council you will:
• Administrative Support: Assist the Cleaning Services Support Manager with a wide range of administrative tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the Building Cleaning Department.
• Data Management: Assist with maintaining and updating payroll systems, overtime records, absence logs, and various departmental reports including operational, agency usage, and health & safety data.
• Communication & Reporting: Assist with preparing monthly newsletters, collating statistical information, and using computer systems to input and extract relevant data for reporting purposes.
• Operational Support & Compliance: Assist with providing elevated support to management, upholding filing systems, and ensure compliance with health and safety policies.
• Staff Liaison: Act as a point of contact for cleaning operatives, handling queries related to payroll, annual leave, and scheduling for meetings, training, and DBS renewals.
Training and Development – As part of your role you will:
• Complete a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship qualification.
• Have the opportunity to study Maths and English if you have not already achieved a GCSE or Level 2 equivalent.
• Participate in the Councils apprenticeship network and various development activities.
• Have access to a buddy/mentor.
After you have successfully completed your apprenticeship, you will have gained valuable workplace experience and attained your level 3 qualification. This will improve your chances of finding work within the Council, with other employers or help you move on to a higher-level apprenticeship.

The role will provide essential business administration and triage support, ensuring that job seeker referrals are managed efficiently from the first point of contact through to eligibility assessment and allocation to the appropriate support team (IPS or SEQF). The Connect to Work programme is complex and operates under strict fidelity models and performance targets. Effective triage, accurate data analysis, and reporting are fundamental to meeting these requirements.
