About The Role

Are you ready to kickstart your career in Human Resources? Islington Council is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for an Human Resources (HR) Support Apprentice role for the next 24 months. Join our team and gain invaluable hands-on experience in a vibrant and supportive HR environment. We are responsible for providing HR Advice and processing transactions for managers and staff. Your duties will include HR query management, payroll and transactional changes, and recruitment pre-employment checks. Working as part of a friendly and dedicated team, your role will be varied and rewarding.

As an HR Support Apprentice, you will be a vital part of our HR teams, providing essential support and contributing to various HR processes. This role is perfect for someone enthusiastic about developing their skills and gaining meaningful experience in a professional setting.
 
Our apprenticeships combine working in a great job, with training, development, and a competitive salary. You will be given dedicated time in your working week to focus on your studies. You will also have access to a network of colleagues from within the organisation and tutors to support your learning. 
 
Key responsibilities:
  • Assisting the HR Advice team in responding to customer queries.
  • Supporting the HR Transactions team to ensure payroll changes are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Managing HR administrative tasks, including maintaining records and updating employee information.Assisting with recruitment for council vacancies, ensuring a smooth hiring process.
What we’re looking for:
  • A motivated individual with a positive approach and a “can-do” attitude.
  • IT skills, including experience with Microsoft Office.
  • A willingness to learn and develop in a fast-paced HR environment.
Training and Development – As part of your role you will
  • Complete a level 3 HR Support apprenticeship qualification.
  • Study Maths and English if you have not already achieved a GCSE or Level 2 equivalent.  
  • Participate in the Councils apprenticeship network and various development activities.  
  • Have access to a buddy/mentor.

  • Be aged 16 or above and  
  • Be an Islington resident or 
  • Islington care leaver or 
  • Islington school leaver in the last 12 months
You will also need to satisfy the following course entry requirements: 
  • Not already have a qualification at the similar level or above in this apprenticeship subject  
  • Not have extensive skills or experience in this apprenticeship subject.  
  • Pass the course entry tests for example in Maths and English
