About The Role

Islington Council is committed to creating a greener, healthier borough by making our transport more inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. Islington is an exciting and dynamic part of London experiencing rapid growth and undergoing a significant transformation in its transport environment. 

For many of our residents the lack of secure, accessible and dry cycle parking prevents them from making regular trips by bike. This post holder will be working to deliver an ambitious programme of on-street bike hangars to improve conditions for our residents. This position will play a critical role in the delivery of our bike hangar programme, which includes:

  • Leading on the management of the rented spaces in the hangars
  • Managing the repair and maintenance of our growing fleet of hangars
  • Leading on the innovations of new areas of widening provision bike hangars installed

The council's Active Travel Team plays a key role in creating in supporting the activation of our Liveable Neighbourhoods and meeting the needs of local communities. The team has won several awards for ground-breaking work.

The successful candidate will be expected to have:

  • Experience of working within a recognised project management framework
  • An understanding/experience of and commitment to good customer service management practices
  • A broad understanding of transport planning policies, principles and issues
  • Experience in the delivery of transport or public space projects
  • An ability to work collaboratively on a range of projects
  • An ability to use a range of approaches to change behaviour
  • An ability to draft reports and complex correspondence
  • An ability to provide expert advice to elected members, management and less experienced colleagues

The successful candidate must have very good communication skills and be able to work creatively and constructively within a team, with other parts of the council and partner organisations. A crucial part of these roles will be an ability to work positively with stakeholders, the local community and elected members to deliver projects in line with the council’s priorities.
